- Delta variant threatens hard-won COVID-19 gains worldwide | DW News, July 31, 2021. The World Health Organization/WHO says world is in danger of losing hard-won gains in the fight against COVID-19. The highly transmissible Delta variant is spreading in more than 2/3rds of all countries, with a global vaccination gap aiding the spread. In Africa, for example, just 1.5% of the population has been vaccinated.

In China, more than a million people are in lockdown - in the country's worst coronavirus outbreak in months. The highly contagious Delta variant is driving a surge in cases and mass testing. Cases have reached Beijing & several other provinces. Just when it thought it had the Corona virus largely under control with its stringent measures, China is now racing to get on top of a new outbreak. Lockdown, mass testing and contact tracing. Same drill, different virus variant.

although vaccine scofflaws would do well to stay home for the time being.

Too many people out there can't lock down, they're essential, and I'm not talking about stock brokers or hedge fund managers.

Australia is doing lockdowns because their government had its collective head up its ass and failed to launch large scale vaccinations.

Vaccines are available here. The first vaccine will offer good protection for a short time, a few months. The second shot will offer protection beyond that. No one knows for sure how long because it's a new disease and mutates rapidly.

Nobody's talking about lockdowns here in NM, where we were locked down tight this time last year. Vaccination rates are starting to creep up again and our cases haven't increased dramatically the way they have in some other states headed by dogma addled idiots.
