Un-Vaxxed Tax: Should The Unvaccinated Have To Pay More For Health Insurance? - Mehdi Hasan - MSNBC

What’s the best way to persuade the unvaccinated to get the shot? A recent Op-Ed in the New York Times suggests higher insurance premiums for them, in the same way that smokers also pay higher rates. In effect, a tax on the unvaccinated. Mehdi Hasan looks at the pros and cons. Aired on 08/12/2021.

And they should be wearing an ankle bracelet under house arrest until the pandemic is under control.

And let's add fats, smokers, drinkers, and druggies.

Lifestyle choices should cost more if they're unhealthy!

Health care and insurance should cost more if you are prone to making unhealthy choices. Here are a few examples:
1. Riding your motorcycle without a helmet. That should boost your deductible when you have an accident. By $250,000 or so.
2. Homeowners policy should not pay off if your house burns down because you were lighting off fireworks.
3. Auto insurance should not repaint your car when it gets keyed for a collection of Trump/MAGA/racist stickers.

I don't like that insurance should have so much control of their customers life. Being penalized for "bad health choices" who makes those decisions? We already know the insurance companies are notorious for not covering customers and letting them die in the name of profit.

I was initially for the un-vaxed paying higher premiums, but after watching this I've changed my mind. While I don't agree with the idea of "more creative incentives" I do agree that to many people don't have access to health care or doctors.

If an unvaxed person doesn't have health insurance how does this help?

Increased insurance premiums were the stick that was suppsed to urge vaccination. No job, no insurance, no stick.
