For 20 years at least. Some of them are professionals, though most of the guys I know did pointe work in class and not in performances. Just because of stereotypes I should add that they weren't all gay.

The Trockaderos have had guys dancing the women's roles since the 70s. They're awesome. trockadero.org

There's obviously room for more guys en pointe in the world, and everyone should be able to follow their dreams, but the film failed to mention that it's beautiful and great for your balance and placement but it's also somewhere on a range from uncomfortable to really painful. Seriously bad for your feet, too.

Ballet is painful anyway, but so much fun.
