Guess I'd better get it this year - but will I need a third vaccine shot, too? I also got the Shingrix shot early last year after talking to a girl who got Shingles, and I also had the chicken pox as a kid. I went to a meeting earlier tonight and before it started we were all remembering all the vaccines we'd gotten in our lives! Some even displayed vaccine scars. Ah, life during a global pandemic...

My next quarterly visit will be during the middle of next month. In addition to the vaccines, I need to discuss other issues.

If I interpreted the results of my last blood tests correctly, then I'm anemic which is a shock since I eat plenty of red meat and also take a multivitamin. I am feeling lethargic and have shortness of breath so it would seem a likely diagnosis.

I also need to change some of my prescriptions since they are not on the formulary of my managed care plan.

I still have the scar from the smallpox vaccine on my left arm. It is about the same diameter as a dime and has a ridge in the middle so that is discernable by touch if I run my finger along my arm.

I do remember my mother telling me that when I got mine they gave her the choice of my getting it on my leg since I was a girl - meaning it wouldn't be visible on my arm, so that's what she did.

And I can identify with the anemia, back in the '90s I was severely anemic and I regularly saw a hematologist. He put me on an iron supplement - ferrous fumarate - since that's the most easily absorbed. I had to take 16 pills a day to get them all in and I had to take them on an empty stomach. I'd take them 4 at a time. To this day it's affected my eating, I don't eat very often during the day. And I know what it's like to be anemic, low energy and I slept a lot. I actually have a similar issue now, low thyroid, which can sap your energy, too. And I also use an inhaler.

Let me know how it goes. I've been there and apparently I'm back there again.

I left early for the meeting tonight since my brother said bad weather was coming through - from Quebec to North Carolina! I just reached the main street in Lake George where the meeting was when it started pouring, blinding rain coming down in sheets. I know the way and started up the hill to the municipal center where the meeting was, but I had to stop because there was a tree down (already!) completely blocking the road! So I managed to back up and found a side street that let me avoid the tree, but I had to go very slowly since that road was filled with downed branches. Needless to say, not a lot of people showed up...
