(2,362 posts)Why is it REPUBLICANS can create great ads and Democrats can't??
Hell, hire whomever does the Toyota ads, or Mc Donald's, or , or, or.. almost ANYBODY fresh out of school !!!

(6,703 posts)Afraid of an imperfectly polished halo media boomerang coming back their way in the form of disenchanted independent voters (their REAL base) staying away from the polls. The republicans aren't afraid about anything they do or say coming back and turning off their base because that base is comprised of vote-addicted idiots and other crazy people with a strong personal dependence on watching and cheering as our society disintegrates.

(6,703 posts)Which gets your attention more? Which impression drives your ire hardest and accelerates your heartrate the most?
1. The hypocrisy of his position on mask mandates for your kids vs his kids? devious minded and untrustworthy
2. The fact that he has the spare change to put his kids in exclusive $$$$ schools that have mask mandates? entitled
3. The fact that he seems so above the fray when it comes to the issues which people are the most confused about, important issues of masks, and health mandates, so blithely uncaring about the contradiction of his positions. too removed from the people to care
You may not have any of those impressions but I'm betting many do and that's what drives the ad home.
Ask Hillary or Al if they wished that independent voters had been courted more effectively. Ask Obama if he intentionally made certain to never ruffle sensitive undecided feathers in his campaigns.

(18,898 posts)We're the "Big Tent" party, but we're politically correct to a fault. If one person is offended by something we say, we wring our hands, clutch our pearls, and re-word everything until no one could possibly be offended.
I'm not implying that's always a bad thing. Hurting people unnecessarily is something republicans do. We are better than that, but sometimes we take it too far.
Life is harsh, and everyone is subject to the "slings and arrows of outrageous fortune", to quote William Shakespeare. Democrats should be aware of not offending and alienating people needlessly, but "shit happens", to quote no one in particular.
It's time to take the gloves off. Some people will be offended, it's inevitable. But in order to reach people on a visceral level - which is where republicans shine with their ads - we're going to have to step on a few feet. Appealing to the intelligence of the American people is, and I hate to say this, a losing proposition.

(23,003 posts)That sure left a big stinging slap mark on his cheek, it's got to still be glowing red. This is so excellent & can be used only against any and all Repug candidates with only very minor changes. They all send their kids to private schools that have mask mandates. One thing you can always successfully tackle repugs on, their total unflagging 100% hypocrisy and this does it well!

(10,072 posts)It's just that they also depress voter turnout.
Everytime a negative ad runs, someone decides that it is so below the belt that they are not going to vote for such awfulness. But it still moves voters.
Except that now, the crazy conservatives have so rigged our voting system, gerrymandering, ID laws and intimidation, that the slight depression caused by negative ads doesn't really have much of an impact anymore. Those who are turned off by negative ads weren't going to vote anyway. Besides, voters are now more or less use to negative ads thanks to the constant use of them by the GOP
The GOP has branded itself as the party of negative, cruel, intolerant and bigoted voters. So, their negative ads actually draw out their hate filled voters, their target market.

(24,647 posts)To me, this one straddles the line of both. In any case, it doesn't quite rise to the level of mudslinging since it is using established fact rather than an unjust accusation.
And yes, they work.

(14,651 posts)Tell the truth.
During a speech by President Harry S Truman, a supporter yelled out, "Give 'em Hell, Harry!"
Truman replied, "I don't give them Hell. I just tell the truth about them, and they think it's Hell."
Subsequently, "Give 'em Hell, Harry!" became a lifetime slogan for Truman supporters.

(10,811 posts)No one can deny these people know how to make effective, ass-whooping ads. Of course, they have an advantage: they know Republicans and their weaknesses inside out. They're also not afraid of going for the jugular. These former Republicans bring a bazooka to a knife fight.
Glad the fire power isn't aimed at us.
