(12,864 posts)It's pathetic that one of America's two major political parties is in thrall to a malignant narcissist and his Big Lie, setting aside any notion of responsible governance to pursue hopeless efforts to overturn an election he clearly lost.
But it's dangerous because these Republicans hold so much power in state governments, and their ongoing promotion of the Big Lie is being used as justification for voter suppression and making changes to enable overturning the next election.
There is an ongoing assault on our democracy, and the outcome is in doubt.

(12,864 posts)Are you saying most Republicans aren't in thrall to Donald Trump with his Big Lie, and that R candidates can openly defy him without getting primaried?
I'd like to dismiss them all as pathetic lovers, but they control too many state governments. They are steadily working towards overturning state election results that don't go their way.

That is exactly what I am saying. There are too many Republicans who are against Trump. Voting Democratic until they clean out the crazies. Biden had 7 million more votes in 2020. After the riot how many more do you think will not vote for Trump?
As I said the media is the only thing keeping Trump alive, day after day, 24/7. It is on when I wake up early, still going when I go to bed. Most people have tuned them out.

(12,864 posts)If so, we will see control of state legislatures and governors turn from red to blue.
But if that doesn't happen, democracy is not out of the woods yet.

(17,984 posts)Including the lies about Biden poll numbers. Most Americans approve of the bills President Biden is trying to get passed.
Now Trump is telling Republicans not to vote until his lie is proved!
This, along with Republicans who say they will vote Democratic until Republicans get rid of the crazies!
So much good news, how will we survive this? :kgrouphug:

(12,533 posts)It was based on "standing". I hate decisions based on "standing". I wish he would have let the case go forward and then ruled that all their "evidence" was either fraudulent or bullshit. And then charged them with lying to the court. A ruling on "standing" leaves them with the argument of a "technicality" ruling. Much like a guy caught with drugs gets his case tossed because the search was illegal. Dont give them that
Smack them down based on their lies of evidence.
After watching the above video I realize she never mentions the judges actual ruling. Read the Atlanta Journal for the full story. He did say he didnt see evidence of fraud, but that still wasnt his ruling.

(888 posts)Without requiring standing, you'd have crazy crap like Texas AG being able to sue California because he didn't like the way California's elections turned out. Do you really want that?

(12,533 posts)Why wouldnt ANY voter in GA be considered to have "standing" if they claim the outcome in their state was fraudulent & claimed to have "proof"? A voter could claim their "damages" were that the vote wasnt legit.
The Texas case against GA was one where I could certainly see standing be applicable.
I'm just saying that this decision doesnt say "you're wrong", it says "you cant"; and that gives trumpers the talking point of "dismissed on a technicality even though we had the PROOF!!" BS.
He should have gone on with the case & then found against the plaintiffs when they could not provide proof of their claims. And then charged them court costs.
