I don't watch videos, but in the past I have written articles about white roofs and the energy savings from them. This was in the early 2000s.
When we replaced our roof, we asked the roofer to use the whitest shingles available at that time. The roofer also installed ridge venting and soffit vents to increase air flow in the attic.
Prior to the roof replacement, the ceilings in our house felt extremely hot when touched on warm summer days. Following the installation of the vents and white shingles, I could touch a ceiling and it would feel no warmed than the ambient room temperature.

(6,065 posts)Best to keep roofs and thus attic spaces cool all year round. My metal roof was installed in 2011 and was the whitest color available and I got energy credits on my Federal Taxes. Water vapor eventually gets into attic or space under the roof coverings. When it's cold, hoarfrost may form , then sublimate harmlessly. If warm, condensation forms causing damage such as rot. My buddy had a green metal roof installed because it looked nice. Idiot. Also, don't install a metal roof over shingles. One hailstorm and you'll have a dimpled roof. Plus the shingles will add insulation where you don't want it.
