The Perseverance Rover has successfully begun its mission on Mars, but there was an important forerunner mission that paved the way for it. Opportunity.

1. Maybe not as popular science-wise but let's not forget Spirit

... which in many ways enabled Opportunity to do more and discover more. Spirit was operating under somewhat less favorable conditions but many of the lessons learned were then upgraded on Opportunity & later that knowledge went into Curiosity & Perseverance.

Also, I cannot forgo a chance to boost my favorite, the original Mars rover, Sojourner.
