I'm Not Surprised That Steve Hayes Quit Fox News In Protest. Goldberg Too, For That Matter.
(I watch Fox Noise so you don't have to.)
For the last five years, Fux Noise has been slowly squeezing out its (for lack of a better term) more rational voices. Don't get me wrong. All the people who've been purged from Fux Noise were idiots, assholes, and partisan hacks. But not all of them were willing to follow the lemmings off the cliff of Q-anon, white nationalist populism like the remaining ones.
Carl Cameron (whom I used to call 'Barney Fife') quit
Shep Smith quit
A.B. Stoddard quit
Chris Stirewalt was FIRED for (accurately) calling Arizona for Biden on election night.
And now two of their frequent commentators, Steve Hayes and Jonah Goldberg have become the latest Fux Noise personalities to refuse to don the Clansman sheet.
Don't get me wrong, I hated both of them. About six years ago, Steve Hayes lied about Paul Krugman's track record for predicting economic trends. I infamously commented here on DU that "the last time Paul Krugman took a shit after eating bad egg salad, he left something in the toilet that was more intelligent than Steve Hayes."
Well, I changed my mind about him, after watching him sign his own death warrant, live on Fox News about two months ago.
Here's what went down:
Hayes was on a pundit panel, when he dared to suggest that 'conservative media' was partly to blame for the spread of covid, with conservative commentators were cynically sewing doubt about vaccines, under a fake facade of "just asking questions." Without naming names, he'd just taken a shot at Fucker Carlson.
Megan McCain's bloated, fuzzy, deadbeat of a husband (aka Ben Domenic), who was also on the panel then got the vapors, and challenged Hayses' statement, saying "WHO! Tell me WHO, specifically, in the conservative news sphere has been sewing doubt about vaccines?" At the time, Domenic was still auditioning by guest hosting for the 7pm spot on Fox. He probably figured Hayes wouldn't have the guts to name Carlson specifically, and thus have to back down from his assertion. He was mostly, but not completely right.
Hayes was still not willing to name names, and coyly said "well, if you don't know WHO has been sewing doubt about vaccines, while disguising it as 'just asking questions,'...well...you've just not been paying close enough attention.
I figured that was the last time I'd see Steve Hayes on Fox, and I was right.
