Mary Trump, the niece of former president Donald Trump, said recently that if Trump believes he has no chance of losing, he will not hesitate to run for President again. But she also said that the lingering threat of multiple criminal and civil lawsuits could also be enough to force Trump back into the political arena. This is the part that makes the most sense, as Trump was able to successfully fight off lawsuits and investigations while he was president, but he lost all of that protection when he left office. Ring of Fire's Farron Cousins discusses this.

1. That's the main reason, I think, that he was so desperate to

hold on to the Presidency. He's a criminal, and he knew that all of these investigations were going to come down on him when he left office, so he did everything he could to keep that from happening. I'm sure the statute of limitations would have run out on some of those crimes while he was in his second term, too. That's why he wants to get back so desperately, even letting Flynn and others flirt with the idea of reinstalling him. He can't face the consequences. He's never had to in his entire life, and he doesn't know how to deal with it. I can't wait until he loses a big case just to see what he does.

2. Yup, agreed this was the reason he was so desperate to remain POTUS no matter what

Sure, he loved the attention and the power to do whatever he felt like - which was the biggest part of the problem since presidents are subject to norms and laws which he refused to recognize. But with dozens of charges bearing down on him, that's why he keeps insisting he's still POTUS and is desperate to regain what he believes is that "power."

3. Hoping He Be In Jail Before 2024 And A Run For The Presidency.....

That's why they need to push things through and not let him run out the clock.

I don't think he could run in 2024 from prison.

5. We can only hope that either

The investigations get so bad that Trump becomes toxic even to his more cultish worshipers in the GOP (or he's just in so much legal trouble that he can't)
Or that there will be enough republicans with their own White House goals that they're not willing to wait another four years minimum to run, and this time around, they will attack him like crazy. He's opened the floodgates for people to be as nasty as he is. I don't think he'll get away with making goofy faces again and will lose his cool.

Or some combination of both. Or if he just passed away. That would be great as well.
