I believe Mr. Baldwin's eloquent and elegant English adds mighty potency & power to his message. ShazamIam Dec 2021 #2
He used it all his life. It's my theory that it's powerful now because whites are now ready for it. ancianita Dec 2021 #3

Have you watched the Malcolm X debate at Oxford U in 60s? ShazamIam Dec 2021 #6
I might have. I can't recall. If it's on YouTube, I'll check it out. Why do you ask? ancianita Dec 2021 #7
It is really good, but I am sure I watched a filmed version and now I am only finding audio ShazamIam Dec 2021 #8

Back then, they were not, no matter how he sounded. Whites thought they could define terms, dissing and dismissing now matter how truthful and compelling. They lived a studied unconsciousness that whites are being forced to shed.

Baldwin wasn't powerful then. But now we've been ready.
Here is a video that had to be hunted down for years before we now find it easily on YouTube -- James Baldwin on Dick Cavett's nighttime talk show.

Also interesting to note the quote about the most segregated day, Sunday.

Credited to Malcolm X and by others to MLK

I like to use youtube to look up interviews of people who have influenced our life or even my life. It is seemingly endless picnic.

Yes, I like to use YouTube interviews like a picnic. I like the way you put it. I do it rarely. But today I'm sharing my James Baldwin picnic -- it's nurturing for everyone caught up in the world of depravity that began centuries ago.

on youtube. I want to watch it again. I did find one, Baldwin/Wm. Buckley Jr, 1965 at Oxford Union. I don't think I could stomach Buckley for that long but I think I could enjoy Baldwin serving it back and attacking that evil BircherBa****d.
