Today, the family of compounds including Teflon, commonly called PFAS, is found not only in pots and pans but also in the blood of people around the world, including 99% of Americans.
PFAS chemicals pollute water, do not break down, and remain in the environment and people for decades. Some scientists call them “forever chemicals."

WASHINGTON – The Biden administration today issued an executive order on sustainable purchasing that directs federal agencies to seek alternatives to the toxic “forever chemicals” known as PFAS.
The new directive applies to more than $650 billion in annual federal purchases of goods and services from the private sector and creates an important new marketplace incentive for safer products. “EWG applauds the Biden-Harris administration for following through on its campaign promise to use the power of federal purchasing to address PFAS,” said John Reeder, EWG vice president for federal affairs. -More...

These chemicals are not 'toxic'

Very few of the vast number of compounds of the PFA class ... are even suspected (let alone proven) to be harmful to animal/human life at all, actually.

Aside from radioactive stuff obviously, the reason most things stick around 'forever' ... is because they're intrinsically inert.
