Lina Wertmuller: "Seven Beauties" (opening sequence) . . .

Academy Award-winning Italian film director Lina Wertmuller died yesterday (12-9-2021). She created many memorable films, perhaps none so brilliant as Seven Beauties.

The opening sequence is superb, well worth four minutes of your life . . .

Lina Wertmuller made movies to die for.

I used to live with a movie executive who went to college in Italy, to study art history, after high school in Los Angeles. She turned me on to Wertmuller. She told me that great Italian movies died off because Berlusconi monopolized the Italian entertainment industry. He had no incentive to take chances and blocked original film makers competing with him.
