- Dec 13, 2021. At least 100 people are feared dead after 30 deadly tornadoes devastated towns in 8 states, from Kentucky to Arkansas, in a supercell thunderstorm that raged more than 200 miles, leaving behind scenes some compared to a war zone. President Biden has declared a major federal disaster & called for an investigation into the role climate change played in the storms.
Climate scientist Michael Mann discusses the role of climate change in the storms & climate denialism among Republican leaders. Make no mistake, we have been seeing an increase in these massive tornado outbreaks that can be attributed to the warming of the planet, says Mann, director of the Earth System Science Center at Penn State University. (10,497 posts)but the same is true for network and cable news. Big advertisers control what we see and hear on radio and TV. They control the propaganda, and not just for climate. This is one of the two root causes of most of our problems and why we cannot fix our problems. The other are the legal bribes given to our politicians.
We will NOT be able to fix climate change, immigration, gun violence
until and unless we all band together to demand this change.

Talk about stagnating weather patterns due to a stagnant jet stream. I was in Romania one summer, in which southeastern Europe and the Balkans was experiencing an unbroken, unprecedented heat wave, to the point where many were dying from heat exhaustion, and the northwest of Europe - the UK mainly - was experiencing record rain cold and flooding.
If you're denying climate change, you've either got your eyes and ears so far up your @$$ that you are totally out of touch with reality, or you're getting s#*tloads of bribes and financial support from the fossil fuel industry - or both.

(41,182 posts)In 2003 I was planning to travel to France that summer. But I saw news of massive deaths from extreme temperatures and heat and so many deaths that morgues there were overflowing. I waited, took a chance and went atth end of August and things were ok by then.
Those were unusual and horrible conditions for France and I knew that climate change was the cause. Also, I'd been to Europe several times over the years and never experienced weather like that.
In college one summer in England I recall being surprised by people on the train to London who were complaining about the 'heat wave'- it was about 80 degrees tops! 1975.
