(999 posts)I was distraught and the police was pushing me to get a tow truck, they called a towing company to tow it to a yard, well since its not my car I couldnt pull it out and I told Hertz and despite me reporting it to several areas, they let the car sit in the lot for 20 days before pulling it out and tried to charge me over $1000 for their ineptness, claiming that i was supposed to call them to tow it. Ive never been in that bad of an accident before and I was too distraught to even think about that, and I pleaded with Hertz for days after to get the car out, and they didnt. And Im supposed to pay for that?
To add insult and even more injury to injury, my partner was doing Lyft express using a Hertz vehicle that was provided by the rental, and while I was with her in the car, the cars brakes failed on the freeway while she was trying to stop for traffic, causing the car to rear end a car and injuring me, and we were lucky that we werent going faster as we could have been killed. We were too distraught with being inundated with bad luck to even consider suing or getting access to the car to collect evidence, but seeing Hertzs pattern of behavior, I wouldnt be surprised if they skimped on brake maintenance for the car. And to add even more to that, police also towed away the car and Hertz did the SAME THING to her, leaving the car for 30 or so days in the tow yard and tried to charge her over $1000 for it.

(4,291 posts)Like so many others, I'm traveling over the holidays -- including airfare and car-rental. Glad that my rental is with another agency.
FWIW, the cost of a car-rental is more than double that of the airfare!

(6,617 posts)but if those people in the news stories followed their contract and that still happened to them, they should end up with a nice settlement to which they are entitled.

(6,699 posts)I had a car reserved when Covid hit...and they refused to refund my $50 deposit. Couldn't believe it! Fuck them. Too many other rental outfits with just as good of cars for less money, and definitely more client friendly.
Fuck hertz.

(42,862 posts)Enterprise vehicles are always dirty and smell like cigarettes or spilled booze and vomit. It's also a pain that Enterprise doesn't give a full tank of gas to BEGIN WITH... and they expect me to bring the vehicle back with 1/4 tank of gas (just the same as when they rented it to me) Ridiculous!!
