(43,343 posts)have been working on Manchin for ages, you cannot pin this disaster for the Party and the nation on anyone but Manchin (with Sinema playing a supporting role).
George II
(67,782 posts)Yet Manchin was still in Washington on Friday.
No one pinned it on anyone, but at a time like this it's "all hands on deck" to get this worked out, not a time to hold a rally with strikers whose union had already negotiated an agreement the day before.

(45,066 posts)You are really slipping George. But I know that had Bernie stayed in Washington on Friday to negotiate with Senator Manchin you and others would have accused him of usurping someone's job.
George II
(67,782 posts)...to get BBB negotiated and passed.
And now you're clairvoyant and know what I'll say before I say it?
Fact is he didn't so you'll never know what I might have said.

(45,066 posts)As such Bernie in his Committe Chairman role does put forth select items for further consideration. The BBB was one such bill. Bills and resolutions are referred to committees.
" When considering a bill or resolution, committees typically follow this course: First, the committee asks relevant executive agencies for written comments on the measure. Second, it holds hearings to gather information and views from non-committee experts. At committee hearings, these witnesses summarize submitted statements and then respond to questions from the senators. Third, a committee meets to perfect the measure through amendments, which also allows non-committee members to influence the legislative language. Finally, when language is agreed upon, the committee sends the measure back to the full Senate for debate, usually along with a written report describing its purposes and provisions.
A committees influence may extend throughout the legislative process to the enactment of bills into law. A committee member, often the chair, will play an important role in managing the full Senates deliberation on the bill. Also, committee members will be appointed as conferees to reconcile the Senate version of a bill with the version passed by the House of Representatives."
Hope that clears up his role in advancing bills. But Jjust to be clear. Bernie is 100% correct. Make Manch vote on the bill. See if he has the guts to openly vote no.

(45,066 posts)that is Bidens legacy and Manchin voting for, or not voting no for ambassadors , judges, etc.
I consider those numbers from 538 to be bullshit because they don't lay out what's behind them.

* Build Back Better
There is a big differnce between your thowaway vote numbers of Manchin and Bernie supporting the Presidents agenda. The difference being Manchin has tanked Bidens agenda. Bernie hasn't.
anyway. I'm bored now.

(18,252 posts)a week ago and last posted in his newsroom on December 13. There is still a placeholder for a major unwritten portion on page 750.

Meanwhile, the Chairman of the Senate Committee on the Budget hasn't updated his newsroom since August, has never issued a single committee report, and last held hearings in June.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Just to be clear, there is no bill to be brought to the floor and voted on because at least one major portion of the bill remains unwritten. Every senator should know that.
Petitions and the posturing are easy. Legislating is hard work.

(1,388 posts)The negotiations on this bill have been a one sided process. It has been reduced by almost a TRILLION dollars in an attempt to secure a couple of votes.
The "negotiations " have been going on for months! Manchin has to retreat to FOX to get the balls to sat no. After all of the assurances that Manchin gave to President Biden, you are putting this on Senator Sanders actions at the end of the session?

Sign Bernie's petition if you agree the United States Senate must vote on the Build Back Better Act as soon as they return from recess. If Joe Manchin wants to vote NO, then let him explain to the working families of West Virginia and America why.
