The ranking of the states plus counting Washington D.C. as a state is (ranked by 7 day moving average of daily new cases per 100k):

Ranking, 7 day moving average of new cases per 100k, and 14-day change (average of 7 days ending Dec 21 compared to average of 7 days ending Dec 7)

#1 Washington D.C.: 134 per 100k, +440%
#2 Rhode Island: 118 per 100k, +40%
#3 New York: 100 per 100k, +102%,
#4 New Hampshire: 88 per 100k, -5%
#5 Ohio: 86 per 100k, +32%
#6 Illinois: 83 per 100k, +45%
#7 Massachusetts: 83 per 100k, +22%
#8 Maryland: 82 per 100k, +271%
#9 New Jersey: 81 per 100k, +86%
#10 Delaware: 76 per 100k, +30%

States with highest 14 day percentage change, counting Puerto Rico and Washington D.C. as states: highest growth first:

Puerto Rico, Hawaii, Washington D.C., Florida, Maryland, Georgia, Louisiana, Texas, New York, New Jersey, Connecticut, Virginia,

For the U.S. overall: the 7 day moving average of daily new cases has skyrocketed from 126,303 on Dec 18, to 157,412 on Dec 21, an increase of 25% in just 3 days. It is just 7,006 cases away from breaching the fall wave peak of 164,418 on September 1.

When that is breached, like tomorrow (edit: today), then the 7 day moving average will be the highest since January.

Extremely very oddly, considering the above paragraph, 26 states have increasing cases and 24 states have decreasing cases (talking about the 14-day change as defined above, and counting only the actual states). This is the most favorable ratio I've seen in at least 2 weeks.

The WORLD has just breached its summer peak (daily new cases, 7 day moving average), set on August 26, and now is the worst since May 15 or so. (The world's all time peak was about April 27)

Including from Dr. Fauci! And I'm been watching him pretty closely since he must get out more than I do and I remember him saying that he also got the Moderna, same as I did...

I wasn't surprise to hear that cases here in New York were up, since they count the most heavily populated areas, downstate and NYC, and that's where Covid started on the East Coast, international travelers and incoming from overseas. But now it looks like the entire state is high risk, including the more rural and less populated areas in the Northeast, including my county.

The mask mandate went back into effect here in New York a week ago Monday and it is being enforced, but it looks like too little, too late. Omicron had already taken hold and was spreading. But that's not the only thing, we started out in a very weak position, the virus had a year to get started here and it had already spread before President Biden took office and we began to address it. Not to mention that there are STILL those in this country who deny it even exists and refuse to take precautions - and there are actually governors who refuse ALLOW mask mandates in their states, unbelievable considering the virulence and transmissibility of the variants - which evolved because Covid was allowed to spread unchecked for so long - and it still is thanks to the unvaccinated, despite the admonitions we are hearing from medical experts every day.

really impacted their sports teams by forcing postponement of their football game with the Eagles here from Sunday until last night and killed their hockey game here against the Flyers that was supposed to be last night.

If anything, the Eagles fans were happy the Flyers game wasn't going on, giving them more parking lot space to tailgate since all the stadiums and arenas are in the same complex.
