During his speech at the Turning Point USA Action conference this week, Donald Trump Jr. told the crowd that following the "peaceful parts of the Bible" hasn't gotten conservatives anywhere. This is coming from a man who has likely never read a single page of the Bible to a Party that only pretends to know what the Bible actually says. I won't click on the play arrow. My hand hovered a moment, but I decided that I can't stomach the sound nor sight of the big Littlemouthpiece.

I will dare to comment, though, and point out that the themes of redemption and social concern are the only things worth emulating in the Bible. The rest of it is about defining an in-group versus out-group mentality and establishing a form of social control that can be threaded into a person's inner life to a degree where abuse of power from the higher ups in the hierarchy is almost guaranteed.

The book and its main characters are Rorschach tests that allow anybody to cobble together any social system that they want. That is precisely why there are so many offshoots and variations of Judaism and Christianity out there, with adherents all claiming to have "gotten it right."

And the same people nodding in agreement with DJT, Jr. would be the first to panic at the mention of Sharia Law, which is another system cobbled together from a religious text that is not specifically detailed nor mandated within its pages.
