CDC data: Omicron still dominant despite revised estimates (CNN)

With several states at an all-time peak of hospitalizations and the CDC shortening isolation guidance, the agency is scaling back original estimates that pushed Omicron to the forefront of new cases.

Dec 18-25: 59%.

Sorry I forgot to write down what point that was in the video clip but it was a few minutes in.

And the point was made that we are way undercounting cases -- a lot of people can't find tests who want them, and a lot of people are taking at-home tests and not reporting results.

Oh, it also goes into the reasons for the CDC's reduced isolation periods -- practicality -- just too many critical healthcare and other critical workers were out for long times causing serious short-staffing repurcussions. And that ideally that reduced isolation period would be coupled with a requirement for one or two negative tests before leaving isolation, but the CDC knew that was impractical -- tests are too hard to find and there aren't enough tests for symptomatic people let alone asymptomatic quaranteed people seeking to leave isolation. And how public health is all about weighing all these considerations blah blah blah but it would have been nice if the CDC had included this in their guidance.

Just like the original CDC no-masks-needed-if-your-vaxxed -- the major reason was there weren't enough masks for everyone blah blah. But without this explanation, it confused a lot of people.
