Stephen Colbert - Monologue and Opening - 1/6/22

Biden Takes The Gloves Off, Tears Into The Former President For Inciting Jan. 6th Riot

One year after a violent mob ransacked the U.S. Capitol, Stephen looks back at The Late Show's spontaneous live episode from that night, and listens as President Biden blames the former president without mentioning him by name.

Using TFG's name - but Stephen Colbert has already come up with a solution for that, he asked viewers to send in "nicknames," so he uses those instead. And I was wishing Colbert would share those with President Biden!

Since the president didn't want to use TFG's name, either. I laughed whenever I imagined it...

Something that makes one voice sound like a chorus. Kudos to whoever wrote it, too.

But we know how Colbert gets around that, he asked viewers to send in appropriate "nicknames" so that's what he uses. When we heard that the president wanted to avoid that too, I kept wishing that Colbert would share his list of names with President Biden - how would that have gone over?!

I remember one time when was taping his monologue when there was breaking news (I think it was the news of TFG's first meeting with Kim Jong-un), so he threw out the script and just ad libbed the rest. But even he was shocked by the events of January 6th. And his guests that night were Senator Amy Klobuchar and Rep. Adam Kinzinger for a first hand account of what they had experienced.

so I see the monologes on YT, or posted here.

Didn't think to check that night, yet, I often I'd checked his (really) Live after X event happening.

That's some pic of him reacting!

That afternoon-
I got to sleep extremely late at "night", so I woke up soon after the attack was happening.
I check DU after a few other things first (mail, phone & text messages), and I was 'whaaaa....?" trying to figure out the reality of it, then trying to find and stream live footage (I did), and plunged into the Surreality!

I realize that most DUers don't stay up as late as I do, or have cable or even TV. And what I say to friends when I recommend DU - is that this is the best site for news on the internets. DU was on January 6th from the beginning, but I had the same reaction, that what happened was both surreal and as scary as anything we've seen since 9/11.

I have to save up for a flat screen. It wasn't something though once the the pandemic hit that I've gone out to look for.

Oh, yes Surrealistic. I know re: 9-11.

•I worked around that area off & on from '82 - '90ish.
•I hung out at at the palm court, the plaza, and the esplanade of what is now called Brookfield PL (west of the WTC) from '90s onward.

•Plus from 9/'80 - 8/81 I worked in the NE corner fully windowed 73rd flr (2 elevators!) one of NYS Offices of The South Tower (#2).
(The NYS Dept I was with moved out some years before that Horrific day)

I can unequivocally say that Jan 6 was
(while different) as Surreal!
[I'd add Oklahoma City as well 😔]

And certainly was the counterpoint of the Oath of Office
"...defend from enemies foreign AND Domestic.".

I'm in Northeastern New York and it scared me witless, it was a real wake up call for me. I just happened to be in the dentist's chair on 9/11. Things were at sixes and sevens there, my poor dentist was constantly on the phone and she had the TV in the room tuned to CNN so I kept seeing that second plane hitting over and over. I walked out of there thinking the world was about to end, so that day was a wake up call for me. My mother was with me and we stopped at the local school to vote on the way home, it was primary day, but the place was deserted.

I'd always voted, mostly for Democrats, but I realized that I'd better start paying closer attention. So I started reading and closely following the news - and in early 2003 I found DU. I've also discussed that day with my dentist and it turns out she's "one of us," so I often share DU with her when I'm there.
