I made my evening grocery run today and when I got on the bus there was only one other lady and myself. Of course, I'm strapped down in my wheelchair towards the front of the bus while the other lady is sitting on the opposite side of the aisle and one row of seats behind me.

As we proceed down the road the driver picks up two passengers and both of them sit directly across from me on the opposite side of the bus in the area marked priority seating for the elderly and disabled. They began a conversation with the bus driver. While everyone was wearing masks (one of the two that sat across from me had her mask lowered under her nose), I finally said that it wasn't a wise idea for four people to be sitting within six feet of each other. The man that got on the bus took offense and didn't want to be told where to sit so I told him that I have autoimmune diseases and did he expect me to get out of the wheelchair to hop to the back of the bus so I wouldn't be in close proximity when the rest of the bus was empty?

So the two passengers move towards the back of the bus, but as soon as the other woman got off the bus they came back up front to talk with the driver and the woman again wasn't covering her nose. I think both of them work at an assisted living facility and they claimed to vaxxed and boosted, but I told them that I haven't been boosted yet. I'm almost certain that they thought I was rude, but the thoughtlessness and the I'm vaxxed so I don't care about anyone else attitude was so irritating. People are acting like the pandemic is over even though the hospitals are nearly as full as when the records were set last year.

I'm still attempting to get the booster and I tried last week when I went for a doctor's appointment. They are only giving the vaccines during the afternoon once a week at the clinic and I had a scheduling conflict so I'll probably be going to a pharmacy instead. The weather is supposed to be nasty tomorrow so I doubt that I'll even go outside.

Of course, we have idiots here too. And I still don't go anywhere that I don't really have to. But at least we have the mask mandate back now here in New York. And since people got used to it before, I haven't seen many problems, it's enforced. Even today I saw some really little kids, not much older than toddlers, wearing masks with no problems.

But I spoke to a friend I hadn't seen for awhile a couple of weeks ago and she had an unpleasant story. The local Walmart has a mask checker at the entrance which sounds to me like a good idea. But my friend ran across a couple who pulled their masks down once they entered the store (why??) - so she told them that they need to be fully masked. And not only did they give her a hard time, but others nearby joined in. She's a pretty small person.

And I got my booster at the nearest CVS. I originally got vaccinated at CVS so I stuck wit them, just a different (closer) pharmacy. And it was no problem, I was the only one there, the pharmacist gave me the shot, wrote on my card and told me to wait for 15 minutes. There were chairs. And I know that in this area, Rite Aid, Walgreens and Walmart are also offering the booster. I signed up online.

And I agree with you that this is far from over. I know that people are weary of this, so am I, but that's no excuse to be stupid. Hang in there, get your booster when you can and just be careful out there.
