Why the COVID death rate in the U.S. is so much higher than other wealthy nations - PBS NewsHour

More than two years into this pandemic, the United States death toll is the highest in the world. The country is closing in on 900,000 deaths, and its death rate is alarming -- particularly given that the U.S. was the one of the first to have the vaccine. Geoff Bennett looks at why the nation is struggling compared to much of the world. Aired on 02/02/2022.

I don't get it. Fighting a global pandemic should have brought us together, but it's obviously become a Republican policy to fight every precaution the medical community has come up with.

It’s just quickening the pace at which math makes it impossible for them to win elections. 2 thousand people a day. Hundreds of thousands of them are dead.
I’m just glad that I have love and compassion and morals.

While they are all fully vaxxed, they actively encourage their benighted viewers to ignore this devastating pandemic and refuse to go along with vaccinations and any precautions - which means that both their viewership and the Republican voting base is shrinking. What possible sense does that make?? But then most of their policies make no rational sense and the Republicans continue to blindly support them nonetheless.

It’s more important than ever that we knock on doors of non voters and talk to folks. It is imperative that we show up in historic numbers again.

70% aren't vaccinated. 80% of Democrats are vaccinated. What kind of fools put their lives and health on the line to support a toxic, orange, cheesy realty TV performance artist? Remember he loves the poorly educated. And when is right wing media going to get sued for deliberately disseminating false information that is damaging and killing people?

In fact I'm betting that most well-educated repuglicons are vaccinated, even if they won't tell their friends.

The country-club set. The bankers. The Fux News people. They probably broke in line to get the vaccines the first.

But they want their dump-ass sheeple followers to show that the country is falling apart. They'll help it anyway they can.

And then they'll reap the rewards.

Nonfiction. Charts the absolute failure of federal govt, CDC, broken public health systems.

People with power more afraid of loosing their jobs than taking action. Those with knowledge and desperate to act but no official positions or power.

Willful ignorance vs science in the highest levels of TFG administration.

Maddening. Sickening. Not for the weak of heart.

How many positions were filled by "acting" appointments - since they were obviously too unqualified to be approved by the Senate. And he filled his administration with cronies (Mike Pompeo, Jeff Sessions, Rick Perry and Betsy DeVos come to mind) rather than the most qualified for the job. And then there was Dr. Ronny Jackson...
