Trump's Obstruction of Justice and the Running of the Clock: A Statute of Limitations DiscussionThe report issued by Special Counsel Robert Mueller meticulously documented as many of ten felony obstruction of justice crimes by Donald Trump. We are now on the verge of the five-year statute of limitations expiring on some of Trump's crimes. Unless charges are brought by the Department of Justice soon - or unless there are sealed indictments lodged which would stop the statute of limitations from expiring - the clock will run out on our ability to hold Donald Trump accountable for some of his crimes.
A lack of transparency kills public confidence in our institutions of government. It's time the Department of Justice to reassure the American people that it is not intending to let the clock start to run out on the democracy-damaging crimes committed by Donald Trump.

(22,458 posts)1. Actually, the SOL on the some of the crimes that meet criteria for obstruction have a ways to go

(Red squares indicate strong evidence that criteria has been met for conviction)
Only two of the crimes will hit the SOL this year. The rest do not meet the full criteria, and thus are highly unlikely to be prosecuted. On others, the SOL is extended because of an ongoing conspiracy.
There are a lot of myths and misconceptions about the crimes covered in the Meuller report.

(51,134 posts)2. Thanks. Great info. Plus, sealed indictments.
Also, did expiration toll during time when no prosecution could be brought against a sitting president, pushing back the limit?
