Related: About this forumRep. Madeleine Dean: Donald Trump Must Be Held Accountable To Fullest Extent - iGen Politics Podcast
Jill Wine-Banks and Victor Shi are joined by impeachment manager Rep. Madeleine Dean to share what it was like inside the Capitol during the 1/6 insurrection. They break down Donalds pivotal role in it based on his words and attempts to foment disinformation, then highlight the importance of holding him accountable while supporting efforts to protect our voting rights.
Most notably, Rep. Dean served as an impeachment manager during Donald Trumps second impeachment, giving her great insights for our conversation today. Before that, Rep. Dean has done everything from being an English professor to a state representative in Pennsylvania. In 2018, after noticing that there were no women serving in Congress from Pennsylvania, she ran for Congress and won. In Congress, Rep. Dean sits on the Judiciary and Financial Services committees. She is also a member of numerous caucuses including the Bipartisan Addiction and Mental Health Task Force, the New Democrat Coalition, Congressional Progressive Caucus, and more.

(24,467 posts)Schedule the execution in public. Arrest everyone that wants to support the Trump Treason. Build a lot more work to survive federal prisons in Texas. Will Abbot and Patrick protest? We can't progress while we let the Party of Anarchy destroy this country.

(205,301 posts)We can't repeat the mistakes of the post Civil War era (when hanging was the punishment for treason) when neither secessionist leaders, Confederate General Robert E. Lee or Confederate States President Jefferson Davis were held accountable. Robert E. Lee went on to serve as president of Washington College which was renamed Washington and Lee in his honor. And both Lee and Davis had their citizenship restored by a resolution of Congress in the 1970s. Depriving TFG of his citizenship would work, too, since he'd be unable to vote, let alone ever hold public office.

(24,467 posts)the other side will surely convict our leaders when the opportunity occurs. Think of Benghazi as the Dry Run. Next time, they will use the powers to define Treason and kill their opposition.....just like Putin.

(205,301 posts)They showed the lengths that they were willing to go on January 6th and every day we learn more about their traitorous plans to overturn the election by seizing voting machines, sending in illicit electors with forged papers and bullying both election workers and secretaries of states. And, well over a year later, they're not done. They definitely need to face severe legal consequences so this can never happen again - and that includes removing those in Congress who are supporting and enabling them

(7,431 posts)but the anger, and even rage, at the fascist right seems morally justified, IMO. And I have to say this: nonviolent tactics must work.
But the rage against fascism is real. They want us to flee. They're bullies. They consist of about 18% of the voting public and they demand domination at any cost.

How about to No Extent?
EVERY DAY that goes by without any action, is another day that TFG gets to rally his base, and spew his Bullshit.
He remains just as powerful with his followers as he was on 1/6, when he rallied his people to try and overturn an election and storm the Capitol.
