(111,138 posts)Modern warfare is cowardice, aimed at making life unbearable for everyone it doesn't kill outright, targeting civilians and the infrastructure they depend on.
In addition, it is futile. Territory gained by conquest will be full of people with great reason to hate the conquerpr. Putin might be able to take Ukraine, but he won't be able to hold it. China will exact a very steep price for laundering his gold reserves and he will deplete his military while crippling his country.
It's very telling that he's using his eastern divisions already. Likely he knows his western divisions would be a lot less inclined to fight, loath to slaughter their friends and relatives just because Putin wants to be known as a great conqueror.

(5,870 posts)It looks like an identification chevron and nothing more. Anyway, Vostok, spelled in Russian, would be "BOCTOK". (I don't know a lot of Russian but I do know that!)

It's hard to know what any of those markings might mean; I think they were just making a guess.

Yes, warfare is horrible and we should avoid it when possible. To riff on the bumper sticker, War Is Not The Answer. But when it is, bring it and bring it hard. The Ukrainians know that and will fight for every inch of their country.

(5,319 posts)War makes a mess.
no need to walk around blown up army equipment and dead bodies.
We have seen it all before.
Too many times.
In too many places.
And watch your step there.
Hopefully CNN has spare reporters and cameramen.
