It's very simple, nationalize the oil industry. Problem solved. Fewer wars, fewer corrupt politicians, less worldwide misery. I know people in the oil business. Their arrogance, is astounding. Enough said..

a different kind of problem if the government takes over, especially when GOPers are in charge.

All hell will break loose with the first shortage, price spike, water in gas, rationing, etc., under a nationalized system.

And we haven't even gotten into economic impact of nationalization in other areas of economy.

But, regulations are not nationalization. One could probably develop regulations on how quickly prices at the pump have to return to previous levels before a spike in oil prices. Impose a windfall profits tax or something.

those who write and pass the laws that undergird regulation weren't already purchased by the oil barons.

The stark reality is we are killing our planet's ability to sustain human society -- in large part due to the rapacious greed, power and unbending arrogance of the world's fossil fuel industry. Regulation will only work when enough people vote for people who genuinely care about the health of both the planet and each other, and/or the threat of "nationalization" becomes real, by which time and at the current rate the damage may already have been done.

The dirty truth is the .01% are betting their wealth and bunkers will allow them to survive the calamity of unfettered global warming. Meanwhile, another 30% are lost to a fairy tale and look forward with glee to the rapture. Heaven help us.

of private business and the multinational corporations is because in America there is not a damn thing you can do about "bidness". They own our politicians and have been convinced working people that unless they support tax cuts then there jobs are in jeopardy. In reality corporate America is more interested in short term gains, stock buybacks to raise their stock prices, and unbelievable executive compensation.

It's not really hard to see what and when things changed - the 80's with Reagan who pushed deregulation, antiunion, and the financialization of corporations - the process of putting shareholders first, often at the expense of workers and consumers - which became known as laissez faire economics.

Now 40 years later it has become almost a religion in the US.

Lie, gouge, and profiteer. Greedy fucks. Nationalize them Now.

Almost every President beginning wit Woodrow Wilson has nationalized some businesses or other experiencing crisis.

Right now, the tab for lying to billions of people for decades is come due. The Industry is an existential threat to life on earth, while the psychopaths and sociopaths running it are crazed with greed. NATIONALIZE ALL FOSSIL FUEL NOW.
