The Putin party has made the press the enemy of the people. The moderators for the debates are journalists, Putin party enemies.
Democracies do debates, autocracies do not. The RNC is simply following the autocratic playbook.

Despite all the damage he's done and continues to do, apparently the goals of the Republican party depend on the whims of TFG.

This time though, the chair would be smarter, better behaved, and more useful than anyone from the RNC.
