instead of going for rail infrastructure like switching stations, rail yards, and rail bridges. Those would be an attack against the rail system. Instead, they're going for the places civilians will be, the stations.

This could be because they expect to use those rail lines as they push west (overly optimistic), they can't hit anything smaller than a big station building with their clunky missiles, or they really are genocidal maniacs. I find the latter to be the least plausible, since a lot of the attacks against civilian buildings have been in predominantly Russian speaking areas.

Other than managing to shoot down all their missiles, which is unlikely, the best idea is to have trains carrying refugees and other travelers stop away from the stations and repair the tracks whenever the Russians get lucky and hit something besides a building.

We're just too used to seeing our systems go through the sunroof of a car (the wrong car but the one they aimed at) fired from 16,000 feet up and thousands of miles away. Their stuff can't come close, so they aim the long range missiles at buildings.
