(45,770 posts)He had been a sycophant for Trump every day since he was tapped to be VP. When he realized that Trump was ready to throw him to the mob, I believe that Pence had a 60 second epiphany: That Trump was not the biblical figure that he had accepted. That Trump was a False Prophet. That Trump would let him be killed. Or if he left the Capitol Building, that would be the end of American democracy and it would be his fault.
And this mindset is why Pence is not afraid now to challenge Trump for the nomination of the Republican Party in 2024. Sure, he still has a craven desire to be a Christian Nationalist President (the real thing, this time). But it appears that Pence would be satisfied with frustrating Trump's ability to either win the nomination or to win the general election. He'll be convinced he's doing it for biblical prophecy or something, but he'll do it.
Postscript: Has the J6 Committee subpoenaed the SS detail for Mike Pence?

(202,961 posts)For their entire "campaign" and term, I can't remember him ever even speaking. Even when he had the VP debate with Kamala Harris (the "fly" incident), he said nothing about what he thought or what he hoped to do, all he did was talk about TFG's intentions. Maybe he'd finally had it after channeling TFG for all that time - and he had to know what he had been accused of and what he was capable of. If he is, as he was portrayed, sincerely religious, he can't have approved of TFG at all. In any case, he finally saw the light and did the right thing and I'm grateful for it - if not for him in general.
AS for your question, I don't know, but here's hoping that we find out on Thursday. According to Jamie Raskin, there are going to be a lot of revelations.
