(205,333 posts)I was excited about their appearance every since I saw they were scheduled - when was the last time we saw them together? And this week is the anniversary which is an important commemoration, especially with what we're experiencing now. And they sure still seem to be a team and recounted some fascinating stories together...

(205,333 posts)Turns out he was communicating secretly with the Vietnamese to thwart LBJ's peace talks - the message was "wait for Nixon" - he'll give you a better deal. And the result was that the war went on for another seven years - with thousands more deaths, Americans, Vietnamese, Laotians, etc. The motive was that Nixon was running for president against Hubert Humphrey in 1968 and was hoping for a Republican win.
So it was worse than we knew - but now we have TFG. And though Nixon's secret activities weren't known at the time, the Republicans at the time did the right thing, voted for impeachment over the Watergate break-in and cover-up, resulting in his resignation. And, from all we know about TFG, the range of his lawbreaking is a lot more serious than a break-in - he tried to overthrow the government! But would the Republicans vote for impeachment? We already tried that - twice - and know the result.

None of them deserves re-election.
All of them are guilty of subverting democracy.
Nothing will ever get better in the U.S. until the GOP* is gone!

(4,291 posts)Yes, it's a dramatization of the non-fiction book Woodward and Bernstein wrote. But it may be worth a couple of hours... at least until you buy/rent/borrow the book.
It stars Robert Redford and Dustin Hoffman. Here's a sneak peek:
As always, Thank you!

(205,333 posts)Especially after watching this interview tonight - and, for the second time in my lifetime, we have had a POTUS guilty of criminal activities. And from what we've learned since about Nixon (not that I was really following politics at that point in my life), I think that TFG is guilty of a whole lot more...
