WATCH: Former Trump legal adviser sought pardon after Jan. 6. House committee reveals - PBS NewsHour

A legal adviser for former President Donald Trump, John Eastman, who had urged for Vice President Mike Pence to reject electoral votes for Joe Biden, would later ask Trump advisor Rudy Giuliani that he be given a presidential pardon in the aftermath of the Jan. 6 insurrection, Rep. Pete Aguilar, D-Calif., said during June 16 hearing by the House committee investigating the insurrection.

“Dr. Eastman emailed Rudy Giuliani and requested he be included on a list of recipients of a presidential pardon. Dr. Eastman's email stated, 'I've decided that I should be on the pardoned list, if that is still in the works,'" Aguilar read.

Aguilar said Eastman did not receive his pardon and added that when subpoenaed by the committee to give testimony, he asserted his Fifth Amendment right against self-incrimination 100 times.

The hearing was the third of several planned by the Jan. 6 committee that focused on Trump’s efforts to pressure former Vice President Mike Pence to reject Congress' official count of Electoral College votes on the day of the attack. In the year since its creation, the committee has conducted more than 1,000 interviews, seeking critical information and documents from people witness to, or involved in, the violence that day. The committee postponed a hearing scheduled for June 15 that was meant to focus on Trump's efforts to replace Attorney General Bill Barr, who did not support his claims of voter fraud after the election. Aired on 06/16/2022.

there was precedent and legality to do what he was saying Pence should do.

Any court will establish that donald trump is one of the dumbest human beings who ever lived and it will be tough to convince even honest jurors that he wouldnt believe Eastman.

His defense in most of the cases he would be tried for if he wasn't GOP is ignorance.

Of course, pleading the 5th over 100 times also speaks to that...

And I agree with you, TFG only listened to those who agreed with him, dismissed the rest. He never wanted to hear "truth," he made it clear from Day 1 that he only valued "loyalty..."

And these are scary times, but how any are aware of that? How the average voter can ignore all that's going on now is tough to fathom - but then there is Fox "News."

I obviously don't discuss politics with everyone, but a few years back I was walking out of a meeting with a girl who I knew had organized a meetup for one of the candidates in the Democratic congressional primary - so we were talking about it. And the two woman behind us, who I had always liked, started saying to each other that they only watched Fox "News." We have a lot of work to do.
