To benefit him. He employed sketchy lawyers to try to find loopholes. It’s not like the slobfather had any idea how elections work, but when someone told him there were ways to subvert, he immediately paid attention. It’s not like anything he’s done before. Oh wait, that’s always been his MO. He could never run a profitable business playing by the rules. He’s always tried to take advantage of any loopholes.

He may have taken an oath, but it meant noting to him since he had no idea what it even meant. He has no idea of history, laws or norms, he figured he's "in charge," like he was in his family business, and could do what he wanted - and everyone else had to follow his orders.

Plus, he had no interest in the job, nor did he care about how his attitude could affect the country. He'd failed in all his previous money making schemes, so figured he'd run for office to collect campaign contributions. It was just a fluke that he found himself as POTUS, he was not chosen by the American people, but he found he liked the power of the office, let alone the additional opportunity to grift, and wasn't willing to give that up. And, unbelievably, he's still holding "campaign rallies..."

Also he’s been shielded from getting charged for his crimes. Not that he thinks he’s done anything wrong, but he realizes that lots of other people think he has.

Anytime he got in a jam in life, his wealthy father stepped in to bail him out, so he never learned a thing. And he never had to earn a living, he was VP in his father's successful company and was paid accordingly, but there were other employees to actually do the job. And he went through all his father's money, actually tried to disinherit his siblings until his mother caught wind of it. What a guy!
