.
The sextortion scam is the grossest and cruelest scam out there. Scammers pose as girls and ask you to send revealing pictures that they end up blackmailing you with.
If you're a victim of this scam and afraid of the fallout, call the National Suicide Prevention Lifeline at 800-273-8255.
These people prey mostly on younger adults.

Maybe it's because I'm old, but I have never gotten anyone asking me to send revealing picture of myself. Sigh.

(10,230 posts)3. This scam is actually blackmail
Its an increasingly-common trick used by international cyber-gangs to entrap young men with photos and then blackmail them by threatening to turn them into the authorities as child predators. Its not only drained a lot of peoples funds but has caused several suicides after the criminals finish draining their victims but keep pressing for more money.
