We have 3 great candidates and either Crist/Fried in florida will make it 4.
From what very early polling Ive seen, I think our chances are best in this order:

(127,835 posts)which is somewhat remarkable considering that we are in a heat wave and that the real political season doesn't begin until after Labor Day. Sometimes when people go vote they are looking for change and in this instance Beto is the change that Texas needs.

(5,247 posts)Beto just promised to change immigration law.
Somebody needs to tell him that Governors dont change immigration law.
Congressmen might. Senators might.
But Governors dont get to introduce legislation, or pass it, since all immigration law resides in Congress- not the Texas Governor.
Sorry, but those are the facts.
Now, I guess the (R)s in Texas probably will believe him, because they arent smart enough to figure that out. Civics isnt taught like it used to be- especially in Texas.

(4,659 posts)it's "Democratic." it's the Democratic Party. Democrat is a noun. Democratic is the corresponding adjective and adverb. Using "Democrat" in place of "Democratic" (i.e. Democrat Party) was an attempted slur by our white nationalists across the aisle as a way to suggest the Democratic Party wasn't democratic. What this turn of the tongue actually did was make them sound like a bunch of uneducated rubes. My feeling is that we should avoid normalizing their ignorance.

(8,928 posts). . . But by talking about "rewriting our immigration laws," he may be setting up an expectation he can't fulfill. Immigration law is a matter of federal jurisdiction; it isn't something that the Governor of Texas gets to decide.
