(4 posts)Mormons take religious belief to even wackier limits.
Not to say that there aren't fine Mormons, but most of them are practicing Christian heart stuff.

(2,031 posts)you say you are not interested and don't want to know about their "religion". Then they show how they don't practice any heart stuff towards those who don't agree with their "religion".

especially number 4. Used to justify slavery, yet to be on top was never mentioned to the slaves cause someone was already on top. Guess who? Yeah most religions are only interested in controlling people. There is NOTHING christlike about the amerikkkan religious system/business.

(4,890 posts)By not backing up what you post with a link, you have very carefully opened up an opportunity for CCC to post his link and refute your claim without the slightest bit of work. Meanwhile, I think I've learned too much about suicide in Utah and the other red states. It's almost like the two of you are working together to bring truth and justice to DU.

(4,890 posts)To call this women an idiot without giving one sentence to back up your claim shows why you may in fact be brainwashed yourself. She carefully lays out her points and most of the time qualifies what she says by saying it is her opinion and feelings about the church and others, apparently including her family, may have different ideas. You, on the other hand, seem to think that what you say goes without any qualifiers.

(573 posts)conversation, it is NOT Laci. This woman graduated HS @16, and Completed a Bachelors at 21. Anyone who was getting high marks in pre-law when they are 17-18 is not an idiot.
If you could come up with reasons that she is wrong, I would love to hear them. She was born into that religion, thus would know and understand their culture. Personally, as an atheist, I find all the magical, supernatural stuff whacky in all religions, but these followers are way out there as far as modern day knowledge goes.
Please back up your claim.

(8,445 posts)from Democrats and progressives these days. If the LDS church were 1/10 the size it is today, they would be mercilessly attacking Romney and other prominent Mormons as depraved cultists.
The dirt really should have come out when Bishop Romney ran for office in Massachusetts saying "I will do and say anything to become President". But what we got instead was extreme political correctness.
I know people who were excommunicated from Baptist, fundamentalist and Mormon churches. But it is only the Mormon church that seems to instill terror in its subjects at the prospect of this happening; and if they don't feel terror they will feel intimidation.

(3,182 posts)Do you call her that because she is a woman with an opinion? Maybe you should indulge in a little introspection.
She barely scraped the surface of what many (exmormons and others) find objectionable about the church.
The major objective of the church can be easily determined. Every mormon is taught throughout their entire lives to believe that the church of Latter Day Saints is God's only true church on this earth and that one cannot attain the Celestial Kingdom (the highest level of heaven) unless you accept those teachings and abide by all the rules set up to achieve that goal.
One of those rules is to pay a full tithe of 10% of your wages before your money can be directed anywhere else. That may not seem terribly unreasonable until you take into consideration that if your tithe is not current, you cannot participate in temple ceremonies which is a requirement in order to reach the highest level of heaven. Thus, the very fate of your soul depends on whether or not you pay the tithe required by the church.
It's very easy to see how this particular church has become one of the wealthiest in the world and also why the church leaders stress missionary work so strongly. A missionary in the Mormon church has one primary goal - bring as many members into the church as possible. This seems to be different than the goals of missionaries of many other churches, ie. helping the poor, feeding the hungry, teaching the underpriviledged of other nations life saving skills, etc. Also, the more people you bring into the church, the more money the church has to invest in many other areas.
