... if I were an advisor on his team, I would recommend this approach. He looks bad if he refuses to debate - and he'll look awful if he does debate. He can't agree and he can't refuse... so, I guess it's best to go this route.
But he's totally sunk if he does, so all he can manage is to do what he's told. Though why he ever agreed to go along with this nonsense is a mystery to me, he's so in over his head...
