(255,525 posts)From my perspective, he's totally spot on - things really are "upside down." I think I mentioned that I visited the USSR with my grandmother and her peace group. And the Russians we met were not fans of then-President Reagan since he was so tough on Gorbachev that it made things more difficult for them, cracked down on the freedoms they wanted. And now we have TFG who is just the opposite, he loves Putin who is a brutal murderous dictator, more than our long time allies and his own country!

(80,449 posts)Ya, I know I feel a bit like Alice in Wonderland.
The only thing I ever agreed with St. Raygun on.
But no ill will toward the Russian people at all.
It's their fd up govt. Never could stand their govt.
I'm still amazed at all thd companies that were doing business there. There is nothing I want badly enough to invest in their country or to play nice with them. 😉

(255,525 posts)They'd hear us speaking and ask "Are you English?" And when they found out we were American, they really wanted to talk to us. I remember one older lady, a member of one of the peace groups we met, who had been a nurse during WWII. The Russians suffered terribly during that war, fought on their own soil, and they never wanted to experience that again. And this lady said "When you go back, please tell your president that we want peace!" Chokes me up, just remembering her.
