i have a good friend though, she's so resistant to giving up the idea that there are good republicans, that SCOTUS is an august body where justice happens, etc. I don't think she is a rarity. She considers herself middle of the road politically, is fervently in favor of abortion rights, but she just can't quite bring herself to acknowledge that republicans have left the ship.

During the Kavanaugh hearing she defended fucking Susan Collins to me. I'm like you believe her? she's just a republican. Then when he was put on the supreme court the same day I said to her, say good-bye to Roe. She didn't believe it until it happened. We can still discuss things. But she remains resistant to the reality that the republican party needs to be ground into dust now. they are destroying our country.

12. You're talking about Southern Democrats,

not Democrats writ large. Their thing is white supremacy. I moved from CA to NC almost 15 years ago and there are people here still litigating the civil war.

So many people have been republican forever, their parents were, their grandparents were, they just can't seem to let it go. But in the South, when the CRA was passed they dropped being Democrats like a hot potato. Now you would think being a republican was somehow part of their fucking DNA or something. Still about white supremacy.

I'm not trying to claim that there aren't any good republicans left exactly. It's just that these people, like my friend, have not quite caught up to reality yet. Their party is GONE. If they are "good" republicans they actually believe in democracy and compromise and are not trying to turn the USA into a theocratic fascist state; consequently they should leave their party and either try to join or create a viable 3rd party to represent their values consistent with the constitution, or become Democrats. Staying republican just perpetuates the harm. We are losing democracy here, and it's because of republicans.

that there are still "good Republicans" or at least "good Libertarians" who are being deluded by this crazy propaganda machine that is going at breakneck speed to dis-inform everyone so they can NOT believe the "truth" because the facts are constantly being disputed.

We can barely talk and I have to keep at him to not yell at me and have just decided we shouldn't talk about politics at least for the time being.

I've essentially lost my oldest brother to the cult as well. We don't argue; we don't talk at all. This way, he still got invited to his nephew's wedding (haven't heard if he's RSVP'd, though we don't expect them). he can show up at my funeral or I at his when it comes to that.

I would say that your son is buried in the trump cult. All the evidence contrary to what he believes means nothing (eg, almost 60 court cases lost trying to prove fraud), his brain simply rejects it.
