(13,431 posts)but Ukraine has built a number of decoys out of wood and the Russians have been blowing them up. I have not confirmed that yet in a News source.

I have to wonder if they're any better than the Russian drones, kludged together with off the shelf camera, video, and optics.
I also wonder how high they fly and whether or not they can carry a payload. My guesses say "not very" and "nope."
I'm not surprised by this, Russia has lost a lot of theirs and can't get the electronics products to make more of them.
Making wooden HIMARS mockups sounds exactly like the sort of thing the Ukrainians would do. If my suspicions about the Iraninan drones are correct, the mockups will continue to fool them.

These are military grade systems.
But, they are not himar. They can be seen and fired at. They can be jammed by EW.
They will cause destruction, but the russians target civilian areas, not military. So they will give rus a capability they lack, but not in numbers or strength enough to make a real difference. Especially because they will be flown by russians...

I'm not saying they're useless, they're going to be as useful as the Russian made drones that have been shot down or have worn out and that Russia can't rebuild. However, that HIMARS they spot 3 miles ahead and a kilometer down will most likely not be the real thing.

(17,802 posts)My guess is that ukr operates the himars trucks outside of russian tube artillery range, so rus will have to rely on drones or other aircraft.
It won't up their chances for those targets.
It may help them harass troops on the ground, or regular artillery, but not the remote mobile systems.
