detective fiction (as opposed to crime fiction) - fiction which puts the empahisis on recognizing and interpreting evidence rather than on the nature of the crime (especially if violent.) And, yes, that means a whole lot of "cozies." They help to develop )or strengthen if one already has one) a solid sense of good and evil in society.
