(32,108 posts)A commitment too much to Putin? I'm thinking the world's richest man is not going to enjoy it Too bad, maybe if he had transferred a few hundred billion USD's back to State Reserves in order to finance a proper war......oh well. Turns out he's as stupid as Trump is.

Let's pray we don't adopt how they vote, at the point of a gun.

(30 posts)I couldn't help noticing the videos of crying mothers and children saying farewell to their 40-year-old cab driving fathers were all shot in Chuvashia, Yakutia, and Tuva Republic, all places where a $2,000 ticket to Turkey is three months income. Sending one country's poor to fight pointless wars seems to be the MO of crumbling empires worldwide.

(30 posts)It really depends. You think a Russian will blast Putin during a TV interview? He won't post anything on Facebook, either, because the FSB has been known to check in. I know people who have lost their jobs because they like or unlike a post. So publicly voicing your opinion leads to consequences, and it's not like they can pick up and move to LA to start a new life. Even your best friend could change his mind on things depending on company. I remember my Russian roommate talking about Stalin one day and he said the country needs a strong man like him (this was during the Yeltsin years). The next day he wondered why so many people long for a brutal dictator like Stalin.
So it's hard to get a read on people.

(255,264 posts)As for "Facebook," or whatever it's called now, they don't have the advantage of the Cambridge Analytica or whistleblower news like we have here, confirming that it's a dangerous place to be - serving only as a moneymaker for its founder. And, as you said, it's gotten to the point that they can't trust anybody, reverting to the days of Stalin.
