Related: About this forumRachel Magnificently Did Tonight What She Does Best
She nailed how fascism has morphed across history from Italy's Mussolini to the Koch front Tea Party, to the Q Party, to the DeSantis Harvard Operative of Stealth racism, to the Orbans, to the Bannon Party with its now female face, Georgia Mussolini Meloni.
Then Rachel magnificently connected fascism to sham, even violent elections, to justify invading another country, to promote strongman rule to nullify the power to the people and, in the end, to end democracy by violently mocking and twisting it into making the people give up their power, by convincing them they'll lose it anyway, by stealth or violence.
Rachel explains its simplest level:
"If they do not want your vote to determine who is in power, it means that they don't want to use that power to try to meet your needs, to try to earn your vote... Separating power from the preferences of the people. And instead just ruling over the people by force for their own purposes and to meet their own needs instead the needs of the people..."

(43,307 posts)But I still resent her decision. I've yelled at her, been pissed her, but in the end, I'm being selfishly unforgiving.
Yeah, it sucks. And we have to grow up and live with her on her own terms.

(11,223 posts)She'll get my respect doing whatever she chooses. But. But, couldn't she just do the evening news on NBC, her show at 9pm, Brian Williams/Stephanie Rhule's show at 11pm and bi-weekly specials? No? Wish in one hand and shit in the other, see which fills up first.

(43,307 posts)So maybe that helps.
Maybe she will do more of what you want, but she's got other projects and productions. We'll see.
I hear you, but IMHO, we can't be dependent on what she does; if she can do it, so can the rest of us. Right?

(11,223 posts)From her Air America days. Genuine and very trustworthy. We just assume everyone in her vast audience will vote blue and hopefully take 3 people with them.
Did you make it to Georgia?
ancianita
(43,307 posts)Thanks for asking. I made it from the FL west coast to Tallahassee to Dothan, Alabama. I'm fine.
No one should want to evacuate to GA, which is where Ian is heading.

(11,223 posts)I always meld Georgia and Alabama together into one big bastion of cheese grits and biscuits and gravy. Ian probably will end up in Georgia, just long enough for desantis to declare a state of emergency for them, also.
Glad you're safe. This hurricane is going to do some serious damage.
ancianita
(43,307 posts)Yes, it will be serious. And the long cleanup will be the insult added to injury. All the ruined construction, swarms of mosquito pestilence all over the state, and the creeping mold that follows. One can only hope that the dry winter season helps beat out the advance of mold in dwellings.
Now I remember why concrete block homes are prevalent in Florida. Because anything else is soft tacos to termites, who own the tropics, and because water doesn't weaken or ruin concrete structures.

(11,223 posts)No major hurricane to directly hit there in 100 years. Over 1 million properties to be adversely affected by the storm surge...mold, if your house doesn't float away. I hope your property survives intact.

(43,307 posts)Thanks for your concern. I hope so, too.

(43,307 posts)As a side note, the heiress of the Publix chain of food stores in the South fled to Italy when she got found out as funding buses of Jan 6 protestors. She's still there, the christo-fascist coward.

(22,685 posts)I needed to have it pulled together so expertly. I miss her and make it a point to watch her on Mondays. I respect and laud that she is writing her own ticket and making her own choices. Her excellence has earned her this amazing privilege, and seemingly the powers at MSNBC understand her value. i feel we are watching an unprecedented happening (these days) where a woman dictates her own path.
