What does Russia's annexation of Ukrainian lands mean for its invasion? - CNA (Singapore)

Russia on Friday (Sep 30) escalated its invasion of Ukraine after President Vladimir Putin signed treaties to annex four partially occupied regions.

Luhansk, Donetsk, Kherson and Zaporizhzhia became Russia's "compatriots" in a ceremony that Kyiv called a "Kremlin freak show" devoid of legal meaning. Stuart Smith explores what this might bode for the next phase of the war.

territories is only partially controlled by Russia. The attempted annexation is also illegal per international law. At this moment the Armed Forces of Ukraine (the AFU) have the city of Lyman and anywhere from 1,500 to 5,000 Russian troops surrounded. The AFU is continuing to advance in all regions. Pooty is losing the war, he knows it and is using this "annexation" as a way to cover his failure.

BTW, the encirclement of those Russians troops is the first encirclement of Russian forces since WWII.

Slava Ukraini!! Heroyam Slava!!
