We have had 3 people convicted of espionage @ the level of what TFG might have been very well @ and they
were the Rosenbergs (executed) and FBI Agent Robert Hanssen (15 life terms in the Super Max in Colorado).

But it would be cruel and unusual punishment for his cellmates

Ive always found that particular phrase distasteful.

(23,874 posts)What is with posting videos for news?
I know that many are for people that just want to get their mugs in front of cameras (and probably ask for donations.)
But our personal time is important. Watching extraneous peoples' lips move while waiting for the meat-of-the-matter is a pain.
Some videos are worth watching, for a variety of reasons. But for a simple recitation of facts, I'll take the printed word every time. I can read a lot faster than anyone in a video can talk!
Also, my hearing isn't great, and most of these things are not close-captioned. I can understand how some might rather watch a video, but for some of us it's the other way around.
My thoughts exactly. I hate videos

(59,522 posts)Dearie ordered that these materials not under dispute for attorney-client privilege or attorney work product be sent to the Case Team, who will work with Trump to resolve or narrow the disputes regarding claims of executive privilege and designations pursuant to the Presidential Records Act by Oct. 22.
So, though Dearie has declared no attorney-client privilege, the Case Team has to negotiate with tfg about whether the documents are subject to executive privilege? And he has till Oct 22 to do argue about it.
That sucks, actually.

(169,746 posts)but I think he is just indicating that moniker based on Loose Cannon's order and her nonsensical mention of that non-existent power. So there really wouldn't be any "negotiation" for something that doesn't exist and would probably boil down to him explicitly designating (in writing) what items he thinks are subject to "Executive Privilege" and then watching that get shot down. It's going through the motions, "for the record".

(169,746 posts)so is a pre-programmed zombie. Fortunately there is a counterpart organization out there - American Constitution Society - that gets little or no press, that calls them out. Russ Feingold is now part of that and recently had some blog remarks about Cannon -
Judicial Decisions Should Be Based on Law, Not Politics
Russ Feingold President
Our judiciary is meant to be one of our Constitutions and countrys safeguards for preserving democracy and the rule of law. Judges are supposed to be bound by the Constitution and are expected to be objective and driven by sound legal reasoning, distinguishing them from elected officials who identify with a party and a partisan agenda. When judges no longer see this as their responsibility, the rule of law is under threat. And thats what we are seeing today.
Former President Trump and Senator McConnell prioritized the nomination and confirmation of federal judges, with a consistent preference for ideologues who took their partisan agenda with them to the bench. Were now seeing the impact of this, with an alarming disregard for the rule of law by some judges nominated by Trump.
The packed Supreme Court is the ultimate example of the harm done when justices view cases through a partisan lens and decide cases with a partisan agenda. We end up with decisions like Dobbs and Bruen, untethered from precedent and sound legal reasoning. The publics confidence in the Supreme Court is tumbling in reaction to the Courts increasingly partisan bent.
But this goes beyond the Supreme Court. Consider U.S. District Court Judge Aileen Cannons recent decision to temporarily stop the Department of Justices criminal investigation into former president Trump. A decision divorced from sound legal reasoning, and one seemingly inspired first and foremost by partisan objectives.

(90,017 posts)Delay. Play for time. If youve got enough money, you can wear em down. You can outlast your opponent. And theyll either run out of money or get tired of the fight because its taking too long, or distracted by something else, or - theyre run out of office or kicked sideways because an election changed upper management and the climates suddenly more favorable to YOUR interests.
