Comes from the Arabic word for student, and has nothing to do with Islam, in and of itself. I dont see this as Islamophobia, but an association of one form of twisted religious zealotry with another. The MAGAts have the same intolerances and hatreds as the Afghanistan Taliban, and both are prone to violence. I personally think the comparison is therefore apt.
But thats my personal take on it, your mileage may vary.

(1,625 posts)They'll go on and on about "Sharia Law" (ooga-booga!)
but seem to have absolutely no problem at all when it's Alito who's imposing it.

Despite the fact that they're imposing/wanting to impose almost the very same restrictions on the rest of us that the Taliban do on their fellow countrymen.
They either fail to/cannot see the irony, or do not care about the hypocrisy.

(12,916 posts)... would risk alienating some of the people this is aimed at, they could see the ad as an attack on Christianity.

(613 posts)With the basic message, this is over the top.
Yes, a lot of the MAGA people do want to change to a Totalitarian system, but most of them actually believe they are fighting for democracy.
You won't win them over by demonizing them.

(12,532 posts)It's designed to get normal people motivated to vote.
Usually negative ads turn off voters but obviously not the determined, most extreme voters. So, that ad is designed to be extreme and get normal people motivated. Does it work? It certainly plays well for many people here. And maybe that's what it's meant to do.

(25,355 posts)win them over, which is not possible with zealots.
The point of the ad is to mobilize the vote among people who are not zealous MAGAs
