Related: About this forumWill McCarthy/congressional Republicans abuse the American voters by standing by liar George Santos?
Federal and New York State prosecutors are investigating Representative-elect George Santos. The lies he told to the voters of New York on the campaign trial are despicable, inexcusable and unforgivable. However, it's not the lies that are likely to bring him down, it's the financial irregularities that are coming to light. For example, Santos certified that his salary was $55,000 a year but that he "loaned" his own campaign $700,000 in 2021!
State and federal prosecutors undoubtedly will be investigating the possibility of crimes like campaign finance violations, state tax evasion, federal tax fruad and others, as this video discusses. - Glenn Kirschner - 12/29/2022.

(23,459 posts)There's a well-known anecdote about Karl Rove, as a college student in the early '70s, stealing a college Repugs election by waiting until all the votes were tabulated, and then citing some obscure bylaw that rendered every ballot but his "invalid."
(they had to have the logo on the lower right corner, or some inane thing like that)
Suffice it to say, the real winner was none too pleased - and, being of patrician background as he was, appealed straight to the RNC head himself: George H.W. Bush.
Bush heard both young men out - and after a few minutes thanked the aggrieved guy, waving him away (!).
The reason? He was impressed by not only the sagacity of young Karl Rove - but the sheer shamelessness.
"We can definitely use resourceful young men like you in the party," Bush told the impish young Karl. And the rest, as they say, is history.
The takeaway here is that the GOP rewards loyalty, yes - but just as much, brazenness and shamelessness.
So my guess is that yes, the intrepid Jorginho has a future in the party - until some gay scandal does him in.
The church ladies wouldn't like it, you know.

But now we've heard that there's going to be a federal investigation. Will this unapologetic liar survive that? Time will tell, but time is of the essence, he's scheduled to be seated on January 3rd...

(23,459 posts)Because frankly, I doubt anyone can get enough Repugs to go along with expelling that cretin once sworn in - no matter what the circumstances!
On the other hand, Santos would be a living, breathing embarrassment for the House GOPee - day in, and day out.
As they say, God has a sense of humor - and works in mysterious ways.

(44,738 posts)A Republican candidate for public office lies intentionally during his campaign, his lies made public. And the reaction? An almost immediate call for investigation(s), and demands for his resignation before he serves a day in office collecting a socialist paycheck. Quite a change from the not too distant past.
