Ukrainians celebrate Orthodox Christmas under shadow of war - Al Jazeera



There has been little let up in fighting in eastern Ukraine despite a unilateral ceasefire declared by Russia during the Orthodox Christmas.

Moscow says its forces have returned fire from Ukrainian forces but have largely observed the ceasefire.

This is the first Orthodox Christmas since Russia's invasion.

For the 30 million members of the Orthodox church, attending mass is not just a spiritual act, but also a political one.
