After four days of defeats, Republican Kevin McCarthy was finally elected as Speaker of the House on the 15th vote, the most attempts since before the Civil War. His dramatic victory came after a series of concessions that will give hardline conservatives greater influence in the House. Hunter Biden’s laptop will take up some time. Butterymails will take some effort. We may even be lucky enough to hear about Benghazi again! Won’t that be fun?

We’re going to see lots of action. It just won’t have anything to do with governing.
