It demonstrates fairness in approach. Both get a Special Counsel - equal treatment.
It's arguably for show due to the politics.
But it also shows up Trump by demonstrating how his situation should have been handled.
The contrast is stark.

(18,638 posts)...but now the ball is in the hands of the Special Council. Needless to say, the Trump appointee doesn't want to appear as if there's a ring in his nose that Trump leads him around with.
At this level no judge wants to give the impression he's anything but incorruptible. He has nothing to lose by being responsible and fair. On the other hand....
Let's hope he overcompensates as well.
