Could Russia Become a Failed State? - TLDR News EU

With Russia's invasion of Ukraine going poorly, some foreign policy experts have begun speculating about the potential collapse of the Russian state. But is this just baseless sensationalism? Or is there a chance Russia could become a failed state?

especially if some squabbler who blamed the west (very likely) got hold of the launch codes for their nuclear ICBMs (less likely but possible). That could be double plus ungood for most of the planet. Somewhat likelier is what happened after the collapse of the Soviet system, most of thei nuclear arsenal fell into disrepair and only the newest stuff works. That would happen again.

A slower collapse might see a bloodbath (literal or metaphorical) among the Kremlin honchos in all the branches of their government, taking the media propagandists down hard along with them, likely to be replaced by other opportunists.

The slowest collapse would see most of those honchos living through it, but being forced to retire along with the media liars who got the country into that mess. This is the least likely, they've already been through this in the 90s and it didn't work all that well, the Politburo just decamped into their equivalent of our Senate and the ones who haven't died off are still there. If that happens again, nothing will change and they'll just get themselves another Czar.

I agree that the various ex Soviet republics are going to demand home rule, being allowed to elect their own governors rather than having them appointed by the Kremlin, of raising their own taxes and sending a portion to Moscow instead of sending the whole amount there and getting a pittance in return. The country will be forced to decentralize, and that is the first step to becoming a modern state.

This is why:

A failed state with nukes?

We didn’t learn yet from Afghanistan? With nukes added in to the mix?

Not an outcome anyone rational would want , not speaking of you, no offense.

I dislike the idea of innocent people suffering - and this would happen. But the rat-f@ckers in the kremlin and their chief rat should go down and go down hard.

Goes to show that the type of government too (a 'putin' state) goes a long way in determining the success of its citizens and economy, that inadequate disposal of its resources determined by the already failed state of government has or is literally destroying the Country from within.
